THE HISTORY OF SALLY'S

Sally's Saloon and Eatery opened its doors for business in December of 1992 amid a whirl of controversy. In search of a marketable name and logo for their new establishment, the management decided that a female companion for Goldy Gopher (the U of M Mascot) was in order - thus the creation of Sally the female gopher.

Upon the opening of the Saloon and Eatery, several new and would-be patrons expressed concern that the new cartoon logo was a bit racy and somewhat offensive. This attention reached the media, including articles written in the Minnesota Daily, the Star Tribune, and news coverage on KSTP TV. Considering the objections being voiced, the management chose to alter the caricature by clothing her in a sweatshirt and adding tennis shoes.

Through the early turmoil, the main objective of Sally's Saloon and Eatery has been to serve the campus community with fast, delicious, reasonably priced food in a warm, friendly atmosphere.

We at Sally's extend our welcome and will do all we can to make your dining experience a memorable one. Thanks again for your patronage.

Sincerely,

The Staff and Management at Sally's Saloon
